City Flourishing Report

As Greater Green Bay continues to grow and change, we are challenged to ask a better question: Are people flourishing?

Flourishing means more than simply getting by. It describes a community where “all aspects of a person’s life are good”— where people experience health, purpose, belonging, stability, dignity, and hope —and where the systems and environments around them help support a good life.

The future of Greater Green Bay is not something we simply inherit. Together, it is something we help shape.

The Human Flourishing Program at Harvard’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science has developed a measurement approach to human flourishing, based around five central domains: happiness and life satisfaction, mental and physical health, meaning and purpose, character and virtue, and close social relationships. Each of these is nearly universally desired, and each constitutes an end in and of itself
